Drawing Vessel by Fumiaki Goto

It may not be practical to actually use a vessel as a drawing tool, but the idea of using something other than pen or pencil is still intriguing.  Japanese artist Fumiaki Gogo combined clay with graphite to produce a ceramic vessel that are made with basically the same recipe as a pencil lead.  Therefore based on deductive reasoning, it can be used to draw as well.

Ashkan Honarvar - Faces, 2009 - pen on photograph

“Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. It occurs in places you least expect, revealing its art in the human body, but also cruelly absent in the presence of deformation and scars. Honarvar depicts an undeniable, unavoidable beauty by accepting the darker sides of human nature.”

Artist StatementI generate drawings which support and explore biennial themes (these explorations have been culminating in large-in-scope installation exhibitions from 2000 to 2016): experience, movement, change, sound, light, time, space, matter, and finally, memory. For example, in 2009 and 2010, I completed a series of timed drawings in support of my sixth biennial, TIME. I completed a 1-minute drawing, a 2-minute drawing, a 3-minute drawing,…through to a drawing that took 27 consecutive minutes to generate. I next completed a 1-hour drawing, a 2-hour drawing…through to a 27-hour drawing, drawing for a total of 378 hours.
